Citywide Beautification Right of Way and Median Repair.
The partnership between Up With Trees and the City of Tulsa traces back to the founding of the organization in 1976. More than 45 years later, this partnership continues with a multi-year Citywide Beautification contract.
This beautification contract includes 34 project areas that will receive a combination of services including tree planting, tree pruning andremovals, landscaping beds, and community education. Goals of this project include improving canopy health in various areas of Tulsa, making the city more inviting in heavily traveled areas, reducing long-term cost to the city, improving species diversity, and preemptively addressing pest threats like Emerald Ash Borer.
North Peoria Project Area:
Improve our Tulsa funds the planting and revitalization of Peoria Avenue’s green infrastructure. From Pine to the Gilcrease Expressway, we removed 105 declining trees and replaced them with a diverse range of species to promote the varying environmental, social, and aesthetic benefits trees provide. We installed 402 trees and two landscape beds at the Pine and Peoria entryway to North Tulsa, encouraging consumer activity at nearby businesses.
15th Street Medians Project Area:
In 2023, the work on these medians began through removal of the existing hazardous and/or declining trees. With roots and stumps excavated, 71 trees were planted throughout the 15th street medians.
71st Street Medians Project Area:
As work continues down 71st street, Up With Trees is excited to plant new trees this upcoming season as we work to enhance the roadway safety, increase the biodiversity of Tulsa’s tree canopy, and beautify our home through this multi-phase, multi-location project.
