Nathan Pickard Creates Food Forest for Neighbors in Need.
He thinks trees and Oklahoma just kind of go together. It was this passion for trees from his youth that led him to Up With Trees with inspiration guiding the way.
Trees have always been a part of Nathan Pickard’s childhood. Whether it was playing outside late at night under trees or climbing the trees, even going through the forests. He thinks trees and Oklahoma just kind of go together. It was this passion for trees from his youth that led him to Up With Trees with inspiration guiding the way.
“[UWT] is one of the most exciting non-profits I’ve worked with in Tulsa. They never say no to new ideas, new projects. And I’m just always inspired,” said Pickard.
In 2015, Pickard had an idea to create a sustainable food forest along the Tisdale Highway just behind the Brady Heights Neighborhood. By planting fruit and nut trees near the walkway behind the houses, people in the neighborhood have access to the trees and the food they provide. This food forest offers individuals food and education within a community that extends beyond humans to plants, animals and bugs alike. This is a gift given from the present to the future that the community can experience together right now.
