Amur Maple
Like most Maple trees, the Amur Maple is known for its vibrant red and orange leaves. Planted in yards either in spring or fall for their significant pop of color, they are also useful for controlling soil erosion and windbreaks. This helps absorb some of the impacts made during harsh winter storms and reduces heating costs during winter months. With a mature height of 30 ft tall, Amur Maples prefer full sun or partial shade and thrive in a variety of soil types: clay, loam, sand and well-drained with an acidic or neutral soil pH. It is sometimes prone to a few pests and diseases like aphids, borers, scales, two-spotted spider-mite, and the occasional yellow-bellied sapsucker pecking holes in the trunk. More serious potential diseases include anthracnose, crown gall, phytophthora cankers and rots, verticillium wilt and iron chlorosis.
