Apple

There are hundreds of Apple varieties, and some varieties have several types, each with its own characteristics. Spur-type varieties do poorly on dwarfing rootstocks and they are best grown as seedlings. Apple varieties exhibit considerable genetic diversity, so some require as few as 70 days to mature and others take 180 days or more. Some trees are very hardy, while others are tender. Apples require cross-pollination from another variety that blooms at the same time and produces abundant, viable pollen.
