Basswood/American Linden
The Basswood/American Linden was cultivated in North American as early as 1752. For centuries it has been used for its fibrous inner bark and sweet-scented flowers. It produces distinctive pale yellow flowers and large, heart-shaped leaves. The trees’ flowers attract bees and the linden is a key source of wonderful honey. Unless suckers are removed from the base of the tree, a clump on small trees rather than one large tree will form, however, this tree is stately on its own or when formed in a clump as this tree is known for its adaptability. Japanese beetles feed heavily on its foliage and it can also be susceptible to storm damage.
