Chinese Fringetree

One of the easiest trees to grow, Chinese Fringe Tree is also stunning in full bloom. In late spring or early summer, it is literally covered with dainty clouds of slightly fragrant, pure white flowers with fringe-like petals. The Chinese Fringe Tree is dioecious, meaning it has separate male and female plants. While the male flowers have slightly longer petals and are more extravagant, the female flowers have charming clusters of dark blue fruit in late summer, and are a food source for birds and wildlife. Its leaves are lustrous, leathery and bright green that turn golden-yellow in fall. Chinese Fringe Trees are great for an urban setting as they are tolerant of air pollution and require little maintenance. It is virtually pest and disease free, but keep an eye out for mites, scale, borers, leaf spots, canker and powdery mildew.
