Dawn Redwood

One of our more prehistoric species, the Dawn Redwood thrived with the dinosaurs just as well as it does in today’s modern landscape. This deciduous confider produces small, round cones. The bright green, feathered leaves turns orange-brown to reddish brown in the fall. It is one of the fastest-growing trees available, easily transplanted, and tolerates pollution. Because it grows last in the fall season, it may be damaged by early fall freezes so it is best to plant early in the fall to allow the roost to become established and avoid planting in low-lying areas (frost pocket). Birds, small mammals and deer enjoy the winter coverage from the Dawn Redwood.
