Eastern White Pine

Eastern White Pine trees are widely used as Christmas Trees. They grow in a pyramidal shape, and feature long, thin blue-green needles. These needles will sometimes grow as long as 5 inches, and the bundles of needs are soft and flexible. Eastern White Pine seeds are well-sought after by black bears, rabbits, red squirrels and several birds. The bark is eaten by beavers, snowshoe hares, porcupines, rabbits and mice which can potentially be damaging to the tree. Due to the softness and flexibility of the pine needles, woodpeckers, mourning doves, nuthatches, and more prefer these branches to build their nests.
