Japanese Maple

Japanese Maples have green leaves in the summer, and reddish purple leaves in the spring and fall. Japanese Maples should be watered during dry periods to keep the soil consistently moist, and need protection from high winds and late spring frosts for its young leaves. They grow in a rounded shape, and their maple seeds feed squirrels and chipmunks, and their buds and flowers are also eaten by grouse, quail, and several songbirds.
