London Planetree
London Plane trees live longer than many other shade trees in urban settings. The large leaves can grow up to 7 inches long and 10 inches wide, and appear similar to black sugar and red maples. During the spring, they produce red flowers as their leaves unfurl for the season. Due to their hardiness and long life span, these trees are not suitable for smaller areas. It is believed that the London Plane is the result of crossing an Oriental Plane and the American sycamore; however, their exact origin has been lost over time. Additionally, this hardy, hybrid tree has proven its strength as it can tolerate the smoke and grime of London, England. Due to this strength and vitality, it has been planted across similar climate regions throughout the world. We also recommend the EXCLAMATION!™ London Planetree for a variety that is resistant to anthracnose and frost cracking.
