Northern Red Oak
Northern Red Oak trees have bristle-tipped leaves. During the fall, their foliage transitions into a striking red color, and they shed most of their leaves during winter. This fast growing tree grows up to 24 inches each year, and their ideal conditions include full sun, sandy and well-drained soil, and normal moisture. However, they do have some drought tolerance. It can also tolerate pollution and compacted soil, and grows in a rounded shape. Their acorns are favored by blue jays, wild turkeys, squirrels, small rodents, whitetail deer, raccoons and black bears. Deer also visit these trees in the winter for their buds and twigs.
