Persian Ironwood

It is deciduous, so it loses its leaves seasonally. It is tolerant of alkaline soils, salt sprays, soil salt, drought conditions, and poor drainage, but it prefers acid soils. They are known for their attractive bark and grow at a moderate rate. Young trees have smooth and gray bark, and over time as it matures, the bark is distinctly mottled bark with patches of white, gray, and green. The flowers that grow in the spring have no petals, and the leaves go from dark green in the summer to a mix of yellow, red, and orange in the fall. They are susceptible to Japanese beetles.
