Prickly Ash

Prickly Ash is a tall, colony-forming small tree that grows 15-25 feet tall and wide. Despite its name, it’s not actually an Ash tree, and they are rarely found at nurseries. It is also commonly called the Toothache tree, and is native to the Chicago area in Illinois. They prefer late summer, and grow at a moderate rate. There are no serious pest or disease issues, and are tolerant of black walnut toxicity. They have a red fruit that can be split down the middle to find a shiny black seed in the center, and their twigs are brown and smooth.
