Saucer Magnolia
A hybrid cousin of America's magnificent Southern Magnolia, the Saucer Magnolia is actually a large spreading shrub that takes its name from its wide, saucer-like flowers. It was first cultivated in 1826, as it was not originally a naturally occurring plant. It produces attractive white and pink flowers, but has thin bark which can be easily damaged by lawn mowers and weed cutters. It prefers acidic, moist soil and full sun exposure.
