White Mulberry
The White Mulberry is a tree with beautiful fruit. It is fast growing, has a rounded top, and typically grows between 30 and 50 feet tall. The leaves have been used since 2,600 B.C. in China to feed silkworms. Brought during colonial times to North America, the idea was to introduce silkworms to the continent to create silk. There are no serious insect or disease problems affecting this species. In the South, borers may be a problem to be considerate of, and whiteflies mass on some of these trees. It is suggested to keep an eye out for scale, mites, and mealybugs as well.
