Gaining its name from the unique appearance across the bark, Winged Elm bark was used to make rope back in the 18th and 19tht centuries. Winged Elm is native to the southern region of the United States. The branches provide shelter for many birds, and the leaves & seeds are a source of food for birds, rabbits, and other small mammals. Winged Elm trees are fast growing trees often used for shade, with the added benefit of attracting butterflies.
